Love is………….

I was recently tagged by the lovely Betty from Betty and the Bumps and invited to share my view on what love is to me.   The idea being that since we have become parents, our view of love may have changed, or at least shifted slightly.  I think my view of love has definitely changed.  The love for (and from) a child is a different kind of love to any I have ever given (or received) before.

So for me love is;

  • Not really minding the sleepless nights (Baby needs me)
  • Nearly rupturing your bladder when you’re dying for a wee and baby is asleep on you.  Well you can’t wake her, can you?!
  • Getting nerve damage from trying to hold your baby’s hand when you’re sitting in the passenger seat.  As that’s the only way she will stop crying.
  • Sitting awake for hours in the middle of the night, because they’re not tired (apparently!)
  • Allowing yourself to become a human tissue
  • Jammy high fives
  • Snotty kisses
  • Going without new clothes, because you’d rather spend money on clothes for them
  • Your world lighting up when you see them smile
  • The willingness to spend all day just looking at your baby’s beautiful face.

Has your idea of love changed since you became a parent?  What is love for you?

I know there are a few tags going around, but I think this is a lovely one to keep going, especially on Valentine’s day.  So I will tag the following bloggers and hope that they will join in;

Miss Informed Mummy

Mummy Never Sleeps

Mums The Word

Seychelles Mama

The Life Of Wife

Hopefully these guys will pick up the gauntlet and share what ‘love is’ to them.

What is love to you?

 Love is......

  1. Great post. I think there’s something wrong with me – I ALWAYS resent getting up in the middle of the night… 😉
    For me, love is… trying not to wake them up while changing a nappy at night and biting my tongue when I hear “I love you Mummy, but I DON’T love you when you go to work!”

      Ah that would kill me! I don’t enjoy it, but I have to do it and I guess I will miss her needing me when she doesn’t anymore. x

  2. Lovely post, really took me back to when I last had babies 🙂 Though I did (and still do) mind any interruption to my night! What is love is a really hard question, but I guess it’s all the things you never thought you’d do and now seems so natural and fun 🙂

  3. What a lovely post! I can really relate to a lot of these! Whenever I am having a bad day with my children I tell myself it won’t last forever and one day I will miss their sleepy cuddles in the middle of the night!

  4. I read one the other day which was ‘running towards projectile vomit rather than away from it’ that rather summed it up for me!

  5. I can fully appreciate all these. I remember holding hands over the back seat to calm him and I still sit up all night when he struggles to sleep. Lovely post and thanks for linking up with #binkylinky

  6. Amazing the stuff we do for these little squishes isn’t it haha!! I do often tell Arthur “its a good job I love you!” Or “its a good job you’re so cute!” Because there’s no way you would put up with any of the crazy stuff we do for them for anyone else!!

      No-one else. Baby just looks at me and I have such an amazing rush of love, which probably means she will get away with murder! x

  7. A lovely post – being a mum to a 3 yr old and a 16 yr old I would say love is giving them the confidence to not need you anymore but also the reassurance that you will always be there for them.
