As you can probably imagine, a house with two dogs, a small person and two messy adults can become dirty quite quickly; especially with the weather we tend to have in this country.

As our front door leads in to the hall and then the kitchen, muddy footprints mean the floors need regular cleaning.  This was traditionally done with a standard mop until we were offered the chance to test the Hotpoint SMS15CAW steam mop.

I may not have mentioned before, but I’m inherently lazy so anything that gives me better results than I’m used to, and saves me time and effort, is an instant winner!

This lightweight (1kg) steam mop has a 20 second heat up time, which gives 10 minutes of steam from the 250ml water tank. The 5m cord means that you don’t have to keep unplugging it every few minutes and ‘safety standby technology’ means the steam cuts out when the mop isn’t moving. This proved very handy as preparation isn’t my strong point, so I had to keep stopping to move dog beds/shoes/bags; I could go on (told you we are messy). It also boasts a removable, telescopic handle (that extends to a maximum 128cm) so it’s also easy to store.

I was a bit concerned we would have to wait for quarter of an hour before walking on the floors, but the ‘dry steam technology’ (don’t ask me, I still can’t get my head around that – surely that’s just air?) meant that it was dry in around a minute!

It was really easy to use, very quick to dry and did the job; clean floors without the effort!
