As I mentioned before in a previous post, Mr Hubby is now part of the You Baby Me Mummy review team. Giving a male view on some lovely products. We were recently contacted by Rockface and so I called on his expertise! Over to you Mr H.
The Rockface website states that their male grooming range is for the man who works hard and plays hard. This, I thought, may be a problem as I’ve never been much of a bungee jumping/free running kind of bloke. Apart from chasing a small person around at weekends (that’s Baby by the way, I’ve not got a dwarf fetish), the extent of my exercise these days is the odd snooker session. You can stifle those laughs, it’s 36 feet round that table; I must walk miles in total and there’s more stretching than a yoga class.
I wouldn’t usually choose the performance branded products for that reason – if I want to stay dry for 48 hours, I just take an umbrella if it looks cloudy.
So, despite perhaps not being the Rockface target market, I have been using the range for a few weeks now and am impressed.
The shaving gel leaves a cooling feel on the face (which is great for someone prone to shaving rash) and the can has a nozzle that dispenses a sensible amount; some I’ve used in the past squirt the gel out so fast it’s like having a foam party in the bathroom when you lather up.
I was dubious about the shave butter as I wasn’t sure it would provide enough lubrication for a smooth shave but I was pleasantly surprised. Had I read the very informative Rockface website (more about that later) beforehand, I would have seen that the product contains “two of the worlds most nourishing butters” and wouldn’t have worried.
The post-shave balm and moisturiser both contain lots of loveliness (the website has product descriptions that go in to slightly more detail than that, by the way) that leave the skin hydrated without feeling greasy.
The scrub contains crushed Walnut shells and ground rice, which make it a great exfoliator and although it states face and body scrub, I maybe wouldn’t use it on every part of the body gents! There is a shower gel in the range that is for more frequent use (and sensitive areas).
Post shower, or occasionally instead of shower (come on, we’ve all done it), there is a choice of 48hr antiperspirant deodorant or body spray depending on your level of anticipated activity (or general sweatyness I suppose).
The scent is very pleasant which, I’m told, is better than the normal smell emanating from the bathroom when I leave it (how rude)! It leaves you with a citrusy fragrance which keeps you fresh all day, but is subtle and not at all overpowering. This is an advantage of using one range for everything as separate shower gels/deodorants/moisturisers etc can have competing fragrances that leave you smelling like a lady of the night’s boudoir.
As well as stockists Sainsbury’s, Waitrose and Superdrug, products can be purchased directly from the Rockface website and, with prices online from £2.99 to £5.49, the range seems very reasonable for a performance driven brand.
The website also has a very useful section containing head-to-toe grooming advice and a chance for bloggers to grab some free products if they are picked for a guest post on their “man blog”.
Despite my previous avoidance of performance branded grooming products on the grounds that I wouldn’t do them justice, I’d happily use these products on a permanent basis and, as Christmas is coming up, they may well make it on to my list for Santa.
