Car Boot Sale Bargains – ‘Bootiful Booty Bargains’

I’m going to be honest, I used to be a bit of a snob about car boot sales.  I thought it was just a collection of tat in a field.  Definitely not somewhere I wanted to go and spend time.  Over the years, and especially since becoming a mum, my opinion has completely changed.  I actually LOVE them now.  We are lucky that we have a large sale every Sunday at the Racecourse.  I just love the expectation of the potential bargains I may find.  It is a real thrill when you spot a gem and find some car boot sale bargains.

So I thought I would share with you my haul from the last two weeks at our local car boot fair (they call it fair and not sale, as Newbury is posh!).

The first week the weather was awful, pouring rain and when we arrived there was only about 10 cars left and most of them where packing up.  However, on my instance we paid and went in anyway and found this bargain storage unit.  Exactly what we had been looking for.  The seller even dropped it off for us at home.

This little beauty was £20!

The following week was the antithesis, a beautiful sunny day.  With the sun came loads of sellers.  I had in mind a couple of things I would like to find (just to focus my wayward shopping mind), but I work on the scan and buy principle.  You have got to work quickly at these things.  If you hesitate, someone will probably buy it from under your nose.

I got so many bargains, it was fabulous!

Photo Frame – We need more frames for our photo wall, so this was a great find for £2.

Picnic Bag – I have been longing for a wicker hamper for picnics.  However, I don’t think they are very practical.  This is a new picnic bag, complete with plates, glasses, corkscrew, all still in wrappers. My Sister in law has the same one and hers was £50.

Watering Can – Such a cute little can with a sheep decoration, I couldn’t believe they were only asking £1.

Wheelie Case – I have been told to have a bag on wheels for Britmums Live, so my weekend bag won’t be up to the job.  I couldn’t believe my luck when I found this pink number for £3 – I didn’t even haggle.

Hanging Box Ball – This will look fabulous hung outside Baby’s playhouse, it even came with a pink ribbon to tie it on with.  At £1, I wish I had bought a couple more.

Inflatable Cow –This is similar to the Roddy that we use at Toddler Sense, at £2 I couldn’t leave him behind now could I…..?

Wooden Tea Tray – This was a mega bargain.  A complete tea set, table cloth and tray.  I asked how much and the girl said £1, then she checked and the lady said well it will have to be £1 now as you have said it.  I wasn’t going to argue!

Inflatable Seat – With Baby’s new found beach love, I though this would be perfect for our next trip.

Small Wooden Wheelbarrow – I thought this would look lovely outside Baby’s playhouse filled with flowers.  Still a little shocked that it was only £1.

Blanket/Rug – I don’t think you can ever have enough rugs, so I am going to keep this one in the car for our trips out.

Wooden Table and Chairs –I have been looking for a table and chairs for a while.  I want to put them in Baby’s playhouse.  This set is quite heavy wood, so I can imagine it cost a fair amount new.  At £13, haggled down from £15, I snapped it up straight away.  I am just glad that Mr Hubby was the one to carry it back to the car and not me!.

Wooden Rocking Horse – I have coveted a friend’s daughters wooden rocking horse ever since she found it at a sale.  I spotted this lovely ned and almost had to check the price, when she said £3.  Another heavy thing for Mr Hubby to carry back to the car.

So here are my bootiful car boot sale bargains, what do you think?

I thought it would look cute in Baby’s new garden. I must admit I don’t do really trawling, more quick scanning, so I’m sure I miss stuff x

  7. My father-in-law loves car boot sales and goes to a large one every week. I agree you can find some real bargains, but never such a good deal as the one you got for that storage unit – go you!

  8. The boot sales near are really are mostly tat. Mind you, we don’t get there for opening, but I even struggle to get decent books, games or jigsaws which are mostly what I go for. I also have a 3yo in tow, who gets bashed by everyone walking by and not looking out for little people, and who gets bored before the first aisle. Hopefully will get to a few more in nicer weather, but need to do some serious selling and clearing out first.

Ours is really good. Lot’s of excellent Quality stuff, ideal for kids. I think some people will just go to sell what they really should take to the tip, but in our area there are definitely more good sellers. x

  9. Brilliant bargains 🙂 It’s been years since we’ve been a car boot sale. I used to love having a walk round. Maybe I’ll drag the husband out one weekend!
