Gro-Clock Review & Giveaway

Ever since I became a parent I have been interested in the Gro-Clock, as so many people recommended it to us (for when Baby got older).

The Gro-Clock provides a system, which helps to teach children to get up an an appropriate time (i.e not 5am!).  Stars and Sun images are displayed on the clock and children learn that if they see stars, it is time to go back to bed and it is only time to get up when they see the sun.  The updated version of the clock also has optional digital display alongside the images, so children can begin to learn to tell the time too.

There is a book that when read to the children as a bedtime story, works in conjunction with the clock.

The key features of the Gro-Clock.

  • Stars and sun appear on the back light screen to communicate ‘sleep’ and ‘wake-up’ time.
  • Bedtime story book.
  • Stars go out one-by-one during the night to communicate the passing of time
  • Option to set two separate wake-up times (weekday/weekend or night-time/day-time nap)
  • Key-lock option
  • Silent operation
  • Adjustable screen brightness
  • Mains powered (UK adapter included)
  • Optional audible alarm feature
  • Suitable from age 2+ years

How we got on

At the moment Baby is a little young to get the proper benefit of the Gro-Clock being only 20 months old.  However, I thought we can start to get her used to the concept, so it is not completely alien when she turns two!  She was very interested in the clock and was really attracted by the faces on the stars and the sun.

Gro Clock

I have started explaining to her that she doesn’t get up until the sun appears and obviously at the moment, she still wakes but that is due to her age, and is no reflection on the product.  Due to the amount of interest she showed in the clock already, I think that it will be very helpful when she is a little older.

Disclosure: We were sent this Gro-Clock in return for an honest review.

  1. I started using this when G was 8 months old. What I did was, no matter when she woke up I wouldn’t take her out of the cot until I had turned the clock to the sunshine. As she got older I was able to set the wake up time to 7am and she knew by then not to get up until the sunshine appeared. As a 3 year old now we still use it as a nightlight and she knows that she can only get up when it is sunshine. Best product ever! I bought another one and am using it with L now!
